What C did this weekend

I wasn’t really sure what to expect.  There are all kinds of documents online about the Vasectomy procedure but nothing can really explain the sensations you feel when undergoing a medical procedure.  I know one thing, I HATE needles.  I can watch open heart surgery, blood flowing from wounds, even more disgusting things, but watching a needle penetrate skin is not something I handle well.  Strange phobia I guess?  Anyways, the thought of a needle, let alone a needle in or near my testicles had me nervous weeks before the procedure.  Hours before,  I was almost sweating, but tried to keep my cool by not talking about it and simply sitting in the hall at the hospital playing iPhone games (Tap Tap 2, Bejeweled, etc.).

I was referred to the doctor doing the procedure by a friend who is a urologist and trained under this physician.  They squeezed me in quite quickly which I appreciated tremendously. Who wants to wait six months for a snip? When they called me in to the procedure room, I left Roxy in the hall, gave her a kiss and entered the room where my “boys” would cease to be potent any more.  Who knew walking into a room one would feel sad that it would be the last time his boys would swim out of his body? It really was a strange sensation thinking about that? Remember that scene in Woody Allen’s movie “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask” where the process of sperm exiting the body is so well portrayed with an ensemble cast of characters including Burt Reynolds and Tony Randall? I had that scene floating through my mind as I lay on the table, with nothing on but socks, a t-shirt and a hospital gown.

So I am laying there and then I realize it, there is the doctor, a man most likely 50ish, two female nurses probably also in their late 40′s and a young, attractive, blonde girl no older than 28 (I was later told she was a third year medical student on her last day of urology rotation). Having a good looking and young woman feeling and squeezing your manhood would normally be a great experience but given the circumstances…it kind of reminded me of the time I went for a hernia exam and the first year student walked in, alone, without the doctor…but that’s another story.

In any event I will save the details of the procedure other than this short list of summary points for anyone who is considering it;

  1. Needles are my phobia, but I survied TWO of them in the balls!
  2. The discomfort is quite annoying, my legs were tense but it was not unbearable
  3. The entire procedure was about 15 minutes long, it took more time to get prepped
  4. Having a hot medical student in the room made it better than without her
  5. Don’t thin when they are done on one side that it is over, men, we all have 2 vas deferens (they forgot to remind me of that)
  6. Compared to a tattoo (which I have) I would say this is more pain, more annoying, but way faster

Good luck to anyone thinking about it…I am glad I did it!

    I did the V thing many years ago. It was done in the urologists office and it was just me and him in the room. The whole thing was pretty easy really, but the pain afterward was pretty intense for a day or so. But as my wife (at the time) reminded me, it was nothing compared to carrying and delivering a baby. Good point.
