Full swap Ottawa for Toronto
Roxy and I decided that we needed some time away, alone. That meant no kids, no family, no work, no blackberries, no computer and yes, no other people to play with but each other. We recently had our 10th anniversary and felt we needed some reconnecting time alone. We decided to hit up Ottawa, the capital city of Canada where neither of us had been in years. Not the most bustling city, we figured we would have some r&r and discover a little bit about our Canadian culture while we strolled the capital.
Our hote
l was a nice place. Arc the Hotel is a boutique hotel in a location that let us walk everywhere. We didn’t need a cab nor car even when drunk coming home from dinner (which we did 2 out of 2 nights). Our first stop on the trip were the Canadian Parliament buildings. Inside, Roxy and I were able to see where the House of Commons and Senate sit, getting right up to their chairs as it was the weekend and there were very few people in the building (outside of tour groups and guides).
We learned about the big fire that took out pretty much all of the original building except for the library. Guess that’s why they decided to rebuild the new building in stone that comes from Manitoba. That stuff just doesn’t burn to the same extent as does wood!
The library had such a mystique to it, knowing that prime ministers have come into it looking for information to help them create and execute laws that would shape Canada for decades or centuries at a time. Such beautiful architecture and history in one place. Having been to Washington, I guess that would be the closest thing I would compare it to.
Next stop, Byward market where we had a great dinner and a lot of wine. The restaurant was set up like a British pub where food was served at the table, but alcohol was only given direct at the bar. Roxy and I both tried a wine flight, which consisted of 3 glasses of wine each that allowed us to try different flavours without getting too tipsy on any one glass. Oh – the sex was ok too that night (LOL).
The next day we discovered much of the market, watched the people, ate Beaver Tales (no really we did – look them up) and really just enjoyed each others company. We discussed going to a local swinger’s club but this weekend was about us. Looking for a place to go for a weekend if you are in the area, Ottawa is a lot of fun.
Ok, we know this isn’t a post about full swap in the way that many of you lifestyle followers would have expected, but it was a nice story wasn’t it?
